Our Core Values

Unique Performance Volleyball’s main concern is furthering the development of our athletes both mentally and physically through the sport of volleyball. Our coaches’ mission is to develop character and self-esteem through high-level volleyball training. We expect our coaches and all of our athletes to practice, prepare, and execute to their full potential while incorporating our core values that include discipline, persistence, determination, goal setting, competition, sportsmanship, work ethic, & accountability.

Unique’s vision is to create winning teams built upon players who possess these core values, and who will positively contribute to their team, family, and community now, and in the future. Our players and coaches will always strive to reach the pinnacle of volleyball, and their dedication is what will continue to set us apart from our competition.

What Do these Core Values Mean?

Discipline

Being disciplined in your training means remaining focused on your goals, and having the will power to not stray from your path to success.

Persistence

Be persistent in pushing yourself to follow direction, be persistent in finding the answers you seek, and be persistent in your quality of work. Unique Performance players, parents, and coaches will not throw their desires, goals, and purposes overboard at the first sign of defeat. Unique Performance members will continue on towards their goals, even in the face of defeat or adversity. True success is largely the art of persistence.

Determination

Be determined to reach your goals in sport and in life. Determination is what seperates those seeking success, and those who find it.

Goal Setting

All people have goals, whether in their mind or on paper. Our athletes, coaches, and teams will set goals in order to develop their road map for success. Goals will include stepping stones to the Top Level Goal for each player, coach, and team. Goals will be set in terms of volleyball, and in terms of life. Goal Setting is fundamental is developing many of the other core values, and it is not something that should be come upon lightly.

Competition

Unique Performance Volleyball was developed with the idea of focusing more on competing, rather than wins and losses. All players, coaches, and teams at Unique are encouraged to engage in friendly competition between themselves in order to develop the attitudes and mindsets needed in high level volleyball. Our players are trained to step on the court with one thing in mind, play to our full potential. Never let up, whether you are down 20-5, or up 24-2; our competitive selves should see every point as a mini-competition. This being said, competition is not the same as ruthlessness. Have the will and the drive to compete for every point, but the compassion to feed that competitive spirit in the team across the net.

Sportsmanship

Winning is an important part of most sports, but as cliche as it may sound, in the grand scheme of things, whether win or lose, it's how you play the game that counts. Unique Performance athletes are taught to be fiercly competitve while on the court, and to push themselves mentally and physcially regardless of the score; but, our athletes will also show great sportsmanship towards players, coaches, and officials regardless of the outcome of a match. Sportsmanship is a value that can carry through to many other aspects of life. Our athletes will focus on playing with spirit and drive, but always remaining compassionate & considerate of the other players, fans, coaches, and officials.

Work Ethic

Work ethic is a value that is often a result of the other values that drive self-motivation. Persistence, discipline, and determination will always result in a strong work ethic, because those players that display these values are driven to succeed, which they understand only comes through hard work. Athletes must realize that "work" is not a bad thing, and should not be a depressing word. Hard work can be fun, and the results that hard work brings about can be very satisfying. All Unique players must show a strong work ethic, and will be driven to exceed their personal, team, and club goals.

Accountability

We are 1 team, 1 club, 1 family. This being said, each player is accountable for the success and/or failure of the group. Players will understand their role and responsibilities on the team, and will strive for perfection in their efforts. Players must realize that everyone makes mistakes, and the loss of a point, a game, or a match is not any one persons fault. All players will be accountable for the results of the team. Players must realize that their actions affect their team, and the club. Unique Performance players will make an exerted effort to meet all expectations and to fulfill their commitments to the club, and their team members. This is the accountability we seek from our players.
